Home to H N Bahuguna Garhwal University (formerly Garhwal University), Srinagar is situated on the banks of Alaknanda river. Srinagar was the capital of Garhwal before the arrival of British rule. Built along left bank of Alaknanda, it hosts various possibilities and vivid moments to every visitor, either destined for some rare pilgrimage ahead or determined to cash on a nostalgic experience blended with desire of Natural beauty, serenity and tranquility.

Srinagar
Srinagar is a valley with a good portion of its area offering a moderate landscape and easy thoroughfare in and around the town, mainly bridging and attaching itself along Alaknanda. This creates a distinct feature for a Hill town, an ancient mountain capital which is reachable after a journey, full of twists-turns and sharp, thrilling ascends through curving path from the foothills. The old Srinagar city was destroyed later in the Gohna Lake dam-burst which destroyed all the old relics of the town.
Today this town is an important cultural and educational centre. Baba Gorakhnath Cave, Shankar Math, Jain Mandir, Gurudwara, Kamleshwar Temple, HNB University Campus, HNB University Museum, SSB Campus, Kilkileshwar Mahadev Temple, Dhari Devi Temple, Sri Yantra Tapoo, River Banks of Alaknanda, Devalgarh and Ranihat are worth visiting in and around Srinagar.
